Read moreThis race has quickly gained importance and relevance among fans and Division I teams traveling far from their headquarters for a chance to reach first the Statue of Virgin Mary atop Cerro San Cristobal overlooking all of Santiago.
The race starts in the port of Valparaiso, a symbolic moment of introduction to the city to riders coming from all over the world as thousands of immigrants and travelers once did during previous centuries.
The race heads north to Viña del Mar and the seaside town of Concon. From here the race heads East to Limanche near La Campana and then South-East exiting paved roads at times and traveling through the famous vineyards of the Casablanca valley.
Riders finally arrive at Santiago passing through the iconic 'Renca la Lleva' sign in the ourskirts of the city and then crossing all of the city through the Alameda, the city's most famous boulevard.
Other picturesque points include crossing the neighborhood of Bellavista and Pablo Neruda's famous house.
After the race ends in Cerro San Cristobal, the riders are offered the local drink Mote con Huesillo to recover from their long ride.
