Mito - Tokyo     

There are three races in and around Tokyo: Tokyo Cup, Tokyo - Mount Fuji and, definitely the most prestigious one: Mito - Tokyo, one of the six classics in Zyte Division. Won by for example Lean Ahnfeldt-Mollerup and Jan-Peter Werff, it has some really great names on the honors list.

There are three races in and around Tokyo: Tokyo Cup, Tokyo - Mount Fuji and, definitely the most prestigious one: Mito - Tokyo, one of the six classics in Zyte Division. Won by for example Lean Ahnfeldt-Mollerup and Jan-Peter Werff, it has some really great names on the honors list.

The race starts in the city ‘Mito’, known from the ume trees, with its beautiful blossoms in spring. Riding in southwest direction, the first 40 kilometers are totally flat, but far away some hills loom. The peloton will have to climb one of those steep climbs. Some pure sprinters may come in troubles, but don’t worry, there’s time enough to return in the bunch with more than 70 kilometers left.

Then the mighty city Tokyo looms on the horizon, the biggest metropolis on the earth with 38.2 million inhabitants. No curves, no difficulties, in this city it’s all straightforward, so technique isn’t needed. The last two right angled bends at two kilometers from the finish line could cause some troubles in the lead-out for the sprinters, but it is most likely that the strongest sprinters are going to fight for the victory, trying to secure a place on the honors list next to The Beast.
