One of the most exciting mountain stages occurs here on the Southern hemisphere in Bolivia. The peloton starts their race towards the town of Villoco from La Paz roughly 3,650 m above sea level, making it the world's highest de facto capital city. The heights underline today’s stage profile as the peloton will race through the mountainous landscape of the “Antiplano” also known as Andean Plateau.

From the start of the day, the Peloton will have the “Golden Eagle” or “Illimani” in clear sight. Elevated 6,438 m above sea level, this mountain display can keep any rider occupied. While the mountain itself is impossible to ascend on bicycle, it does show the altitudes that all riders are set for during the next 124 kilometres. Following each climb, the Peloton will be given a brief brake on the easy descends before a new mammoth rises along the route. At Villoco, the leader group will be seriously challenged by a very steep and extremely testing climb to reach the finishing line. It is likely that the final climb of today will become decisive and that the rider whom pushes himself the most will take the win here.
