First on the route is Kongsveien going from the Old Town to Ekeberg on the east side of downtown Oslo. The climb is just below 2 km at an average gradient of 5%. This should get the riders nice and warm, but none of the favorites are expected to lose the race here.
The second appetizer on the menu is the climb to Grefsenkollen and the restaurant on the top. The hill is about the same length as Kongsveien, but steeper at an average of 7%. Coming late in the race this could be a place to try to make a difference and break up the peloton.
The main course and dessert comes together in the grand finally, the Tryvann climb. Halfway the riders pass the ski jumping hill seen from across the city, Holmenkollen. There isn’t much time to enjoy the panoramic views of the capital as only two kilometers remain of the 5.5 km climb. When the riders pass Frognerseteren they know that only a kilometer remains before the score will be settled. Every energy reserve is emptied before the finish at the foot of the Tower of Tryvann and the strongest hiller can celebrate.
