And there are plenty of them in this race. Antwerpen-Huy is one of the most prestigious races of OCM. Since many seasons this is a classic in the highest division of them all.
The riders gather under the cathedral of Antwerp, awaitening for the race to start. Once the race has been shot underway they immedeately head towards 'the flemish ardennes' where the riders have to cope with some serious cobble-sections around the many pictureresque Belgian villages. And as if it wasn't tough enough already, the route also takes them over some steap cobbled hills, of which the 'wall of Geraardsbergen' is the most notorious one.
For the final 50 kilometres however, they cross the language border and go to Wallonia. By that time only the strongest men are left at the head of the race, eager to fight for this big victory. That part of the race has no real obstacles in it, but given the fatigue that has set in with all the riders, there is no need for that. The race will end at the market place of Huy. That market place hasn't changed since medieval times, which means it consist of, guess what, cobbles.
The winner of this race gets presented a huge tropee, with all the names of former winners engraved on it. Every self-recpecting cobbler will want this trophy to be on his fireplace.
