The race starts just outside the Hermitage. Not much can outshine a peloton as great as in this race but the Hermitage can. All eyes now on the race. It is an allround event and the riders must race two laps on a circuit that shows all wonders of Saint Petersburg. After the start the riders pass the Troitskiy bridge and on the left hand side the Peter and Paul fortress. That is where Saint Petersburg begun and men of all nations started to flock to this town, just like the riders do now.
Following the Neva river towards the Primorsky district the riders pass villages like Olgino and Lisy Nos, former coastal defense towns against the British, when Russia fought them in the Crimean wars. Passing the bridge over Kronstadt Bay the riders enter Kronlin Island and pass Kronstadt. The first line of defense for Saint Petersburg in times of need. Peter the Great himself build the fortress after he took the island from the Swedes, legend goes.
Leaving Kronstadt behind the riders pass the southern part of Saint Petersburg dam and head for Petergof or Peterhof as it is known because of all the German and Dutch immigrants that moved here. If the riders are lucky and the pace is not as high they can witness the Peterhof Grand Palace situated here, a palace as grand that it matches the Versailles. From Petergof the riders will enter Saint Petersburg on the south side and go through the Kirovsky district and Admiralteysky district to start and finish to begin their second lap.
In the end it will most likely be a sprint with a small group of hard working men that battle it out to become the grand winner of the Saint Petersburg Grand Prix and written in the history of this race.
