The race starts in Santa Ana, the third largest city in San Salvador, from there the riders will head east along the SAN03E road to the city of Aguilares. Then they will head south to the city of Apopa.
Here we approach the decisive moment of the race with 26 km to go. From Apopa the riders head west towards the city of Quezaltepeque. The northerly wind can influence the race in this area and maximum attention is required to avoid splits in the peloton. Normally there are no splits but the tension is always high.
After a day with soft hills, the final climb starts in Quezaltepeque a city in the north of the capital and finishes in the village of San Isidro Los Planes, really close to 'El Boquerón'. The climb is 13,06 km at 8.2%, with an elevation gain of 1072m, reaching an altitude of 1512m.
The edition 19 of this race was perhaps the most mythical one with a home team win. Javiero Acarons and the team Amazonia gave local sponsors and cycling enthusiasts a reason to celebrate.
