The national park "Peneda - Gerês" will be the background of the race, but instead of the scenery, the riders will be watching the cruel slopes of the many climbs.
Starting in front of the "Sé Catedral de Braga", one of the most famous places of this fast growing city, the race quickly heads into the green "Gerês".
10 km into the race, the first climb. The climb to "Sta Isabel" is 12 km long with an average slope of 5%. The organizers did the best they could to start the carnage as soon as possible. With a 97 km long race, there was no other way.
7 km after, another climb and this time it will be the "Pedra Bela". 13 km at 5% means that the difficulty will be the same as the previous climb. The difference is that the riders won't be as fit as they were and the team mates will be too few at the end of the climb. Time for some attacks?
The penultimate climb will be the climb to the "Rocha Alta". This time we'll have 19 km at 4%. After this climb, the riders will have a long descend to the last climb. There is no time to rest and the leaders should be right in front of the peloton right now.
"Pitões das Júnias" is an old village over 1000 meters above sea level. What a perfect way to finish this short but super hard race. The last climb is 7 km long, but with it's slope of 15%, only the strongest riders will be able to attack here! Tactics are important here, but having good legs is vital!
Addison Tungate is one of the famous riders who wrote his name on the race's history book after a late sprint against Ferdinand Groen. Who will be the next winner?
