Today the pedestrian crossing in front of the recording studio is the start and finish line of the Abbey Road cycling race.
London is a busy place and streets cannot be closed for long, so the organizers settled for five loops of 11.5 kms each, which is great for spectators, as the peloton will pass them few times. At first riders go north along the Abbey Road and Westend road, then jump onto the Finchley road and ride south towards the Regent's Park, which they circle around to find themselves back at the Abbey Road again.
The fastest sprinter is awarded with a microphone-like trophy and the ceremony is usually followed by a rock concert in the nearby Lord's Cricket Ground.
