With the sprinter's teams content to join the grupetto or look to join a breakaway the climbing teams will need to be on form to conquer the four leg-draining climbs on the long journey from the Aveiro coast to Penamacor, close to the Spanish border. The climbs will see significant time gaps develop within the field and mistakes will be costly. The final kick up to the line is steep and only the best climbers on the day will contest a tightly fought stage. The race will not be won here, but it could well be lost by those not on their guard.
