Zell am See is an Austrian classic for the best climbers of division 8. It traverses the picturesque climbs of Salzburg. At just 89km with 3 climbs and fast descents, means the race will be raced quickly, which could make the climbing harder.

The race begins near Lienz and after a short section of flat somewhat undulating terrain, the climbing begins, tackling Großglocker. A steep climb with a steep tricky descent. The next section is undulating again, with some pretty tough short hills, before hitting the Großes Wiesbachhorn a tough with a very steep section mid-way up. Followed by another steep and technical descent, which is enough for a quick descender to make up time lost on the previous climb but weak descenders can lose their race here. Another undulating section with some hills that can provide a spring-board to get away before the climb or deaden to legs of climbers who lack the punch for short hills. The final climb is in the district of Zell am See that the race is named after and past the lakeside town by the same name. The final climb is longer the previous two but isn't quite as steep. The first rider up the climb will be a worthy winner of Zell am See.

It's worth noting that the difficult and unpredictable route has only allowed one rider to win more than once, that honour going to the Polish Juliusz Ossowski.
