The contest starts in Milano in the world's famous Piazza del Duomo, then the peloton have the opportunity to have a free tour of the city passing in front of the Castello Sforzesco and Arco della Pace to head northwest and leave the city.
After some kilometers the riders cross the Ticino river, enter in Piedmont and prepare to pass through the city of Novara. Then the flat part of the race continues, crossing the Sesia river and greeting the city of Vercelli and its towers.
The last kilometers of the race are tougher for the riders because the road starts going up and down around the hills surrounding the city of Torino, in which the last ones remaining will have to prepare for the sprint, just a few meters far from the city center monuments.
