The name says it all and so does the list of former winners of this spectacular race. One of the “Big 3” climbing races in the top division will only be won by a charismatic rider aided by a prolific team. Motivated for glory the teams and their captains set out from the Embrun, around 911 meters above sea level to reach the finishing line on the top of Alpe d`Huez. However before a winner can be announced, the Peloton will need to pass the Col de Galibier and Col de la Croix de Fer. It will be paramount that the teams protects their captains, while at the same time keeps possible early morning breakaways within save distance. While only the strongest in the Peloton will fight for victory, it is safe to say that a large group of riders will be gathered long behind in the “grupetto” helping each other to survive this day.

It will most likely be the finishing climb of the historic Alpe d`Huez, where the winner is found. An outstanding display, when the attacks begin as the leader group begins the 13.8 km ascend, at an average 7.9% with 21 hairpin bends. The immense amount of spectators will trouble the riders as they seek to reach the top, but it is also a fantastic view and an essential part of this fantastic classic. The winner of this race will have his name carved into OCM history for infinity.
