The stage starts with a small hill part, the Beau Rivage curve, that could allow some brave guys to push before going into the most fascinating segment of the circuit, in Monaco centre, being careful not to crash under the palm of the Fairmont hairpin, the most technical demanding turn of the race. Then the riders have to pass inside the dark Casino tunnel before coming back to sunlight in the last flat part of the circuit with historical Tabac, Piscine and Rascasse curves.
The stage overall is mostly flat and really technical, suitable for duels between the greatest specialists.
