As the riders leave Munich they head South in the direction of the Alps towards the Austrian border. Four crucial climbs see the peloton gradually whittled down until only strong captains and the very best team mates remain. As well as long, punishing and steep climbs there are fast and potentially decisive descents. Whether they allow the weaker climbers to catch back up to the leaders or those with great descending skills an opportunity to escape remains to be seen. Kempten has a long history, representing an important site of Celtic and subsequently Roman civilisation and marks the end of a tough day in the saddle. It is likely that Kempten will see the rider pulling on the yellow jersey today as very likely the winner of the tour overall.
