No long after the first kilometers of flat road leaving Pau, the peloton begins to enter the ascend to Eaux-Bonnes before the first real test of today’s menu rises as Col d’Aubisque and its 1,709 meters needs to be passed. After the Cascade de Valentin on the mountain comes a section at 13%. From there to the top, the climb is 8 km. at 8% average testing the best climbers as the “death-toll” will begins to rise.
The following downhill will be welcomed by those, whom already feel the fatigue and exhaustion. Here the peloton will also get some time to beef up their blood sugar before the actual ascend of the Col du Tourmalet begins at Luz-Saint-Sauvier. 2,115 meters paved road into the sky at an average of 7.4% will trouble all within the peloton. Near the summit the strongest in the leader group will most likely attack on the 10.2% to see off their competition and take the trophy.
