Third division has a variety of classics. All the different types of riders can challenge for a trophy. The sprinters are welcomed in the city of Rotterdam. As one of Europe's most vibrant, multicultural cities all the teams that have participated in this race love to return. Rotterdam is known for its cutting-edge architecture, lively cultural life, striking riverside setting and maritime heritage. And Rotterdam is often called the "Gateway to Europe".
The race will start in front of the city hall at the Coolsingel. From that moment the course is set north. First the neighbourhood of "Oude Noorden" will be passed. From there they will continue their way to the more upscale Hillegersberg.
In Hillegersberg the course will go west, here they will pass the new urban areas build after the seventies. They will follow the river Rotte for a short period and yes, the Rotte gave the name to Rotterdam.
From here the road goes into the Rotterdam urban area. The villages Zevenhuizen and Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel will shortly follow each other and here the riders can take some food.
As the road leads back to Rotterdam they will ride over the 's Gravenweg. Most likely the oldest existing road within the Netherlands and probably Western Europe.
In Capelle aan den IJssel two rivers are crossed. The river IJssel and the Maas. They have entered the southern part of Rotterdam and start their last 75 kilometers. From IJsselmonde the course goes to Feijenoord, the home Feyenoord Rotterdam, the biggest football club in the Netherlands.
Through the neighbourhood "Zuid" the multicultural part of Rotterdam is up close when they set course to the latest criteriums.
One criterium will be a two lap course over "Noordereiland" and, the other one is a three lap course over "Katendrecht" and "Kop van Zuid". The riders will see some cutting-edge architecture,
lively cultural life, striking riverside setting and maritime heritage if they look around them.
The Erasmusbrug, the only hill of significance in the course, although it is just a bridge, will be passed and there is only a few kilometers straight line left, passing Boompjes and on to the Maasboulevard. Where the roads are wide enough to celebrate a 10 men wide sprint to the finish.
The one with the strongest legs and biggest heart will win the ultra flat race in Rotterdam and lift the trophy.
