Read moreAltdorf is the host of the race, which will lead the riders through the beautiful scenery in the heart of Switzerland. The start is fairly easy alongside Lake Lucerne, which will be circled clockwise throughout the day. Soon the riders are close to a place called Rütli, where the legendary oath was taken at the foundation of the Old Swiss Confederacy by the representatives of the three founding cantons, Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden.
With Lake Lucerne always on the peloton's right, the riders pass Lucerne, one of the top tourist destinations in Switzerland, and soon encounter the toughest part of the race. In Seewen the street starts to rise until they reach the Sattel pass. From there it is mostly downhill to Einsiedeln, well-known for its monastery.
It is now an up and down in a mountainous surrounding on narrow streets. The biggest obstacle of the day, the very steep Ibergeregg, is reached, and at that time of the race only the best riders will be in the lead. The return to the finish line in Altdorf is once more alongside Lake Lucerne and the uphill sprint will most likely be held by a small group. The toughest rider of it is going to celebrate the win of this spectacular race.
