Located in the East Region of the Republic of Singapore, the tiny sovereign city-state located in Southeast Asia, Bedok is home to an estimated 290,000 citizens, lured there by affordable public housing and nice sea views.
Luckily for avid cycling enthusiasts, the first race - won by Team Nato's Jeroen Van Dongen - saw a bumper crowd turn up to cheer on its participants in Year 12 and the rest is history with the event being held ever calendar year since.
The race circuit begins at the Bedok Reservoir Park, home to one of the 17 reservoirs dotted around an island which lacks a natural source of drinking water.
With an elevation of 14 metres above sea level, Bedok is technically a hill and riders will need good legs to navigate the terrain as they make their way south to Bedok Jetty.
There they have to dodge skateboarders and joggers before zipping west down the East Coast Parkway (ECP) to the town's western limits. Since the ECP is one of Singapore's major expressways, this should prove a smooth ride for even the least technical of riders.
The route winds north again at this point, along Jalan Eunos and past several schools in the area and an industrial estate, whereupon riders will duck into neighbouring Tampines for a long kick down Tampines Avenue 1 before they find themselves back near the starting point.
But it's not over! After picking up some needed refreshments in the feeding zones, race participants will steel themselves for another two laps of the scenic street circuit before two smaller laps of the actual reservoir.
The select group of riders that make it to the end will then contest a sprint through the Forest Adventure section of the Reservoir Park with the victor taking home the gold.
