The disc-shaped island has a road going around the perimeter of which the cyclists will cover the southern part. The start signal will be given in Sigatoka, with the beautiful Sigatoka Sand Dunes in the background. From there, the Queens Road will be taken in eastern direction, along the coast. With the enormity of the Pacific Ocean on the right and the tropical landscape on the left, the terrain will not prove to be very difficult to overcome.
There are a few short hills though, especially in the section between Vatukarasa and Waisese, where it will be imperative to stay in the front of the pack for the riders who want to contest the sprint at the end of the day. Through Pacific Harbour, one of the main tourist attractions of the island, Navua and Lami, the race reaches Suva, capital of the Republic of Fiji and the largest city in the southern Pacific Ocean. Here, the road turns north after rounding the city.
The final difficulty presents itself on Kings Road in Nasinu, where the false flat will give the strongest riders a chance to break clear, especially if there’s a headwind. Then, with just 10 kilometers to go, the teams with sprinters will be bringing their fast men to the front in order to deliver them in the best position on Rewa Bridge, crossing the Rewa River, as it will be just over a kilometer to go from there to the finish line, at Nausori International Airport.
