This stage is a great chance for the best sprinters to show their skills, however with the more challenging stages gone and since the whole race doesn't bring many risks the general classification is usually already settled and the riders can fully enjoy the view of Salento wonders.
The route goes along the coast till Brindisi, historically the city has played an important role in trade and culture, due to its strategic position and its natural port on the Adriatic Sea. From Brindisi the peloton will leave the coast to head to Ostuni, commonly referred to as "the White Town", where they will pass through liberty square. The riders will then reach Montalbano, the small and previously unknwn town was chosen as the final destination of the tour for no other reason than his name, which is almost the same as Sandro's surname.
The terrain is mostly flat and it's very hard for the riders to break away from the group. In Montalbano a statue in honor of Sandro has been erected, it was built in 2014 after Montelbano Tour was added to the OCM calendar and it depicts the outstanding rider cycling with Essex's tour yellow and white jersey on. When Sandro Montelbano managed to win the overall classification in the first edition of the tour, the whole Salento celebrated for a week.
