Not a single tree on the side of the road, not a single tree anywhere. Only hills, gravel, sand and grass. Welcome to the great wide open, welcome to Mongolia.
There is no place to take cover from the wind, so any rider with any ambitions has to stay focussed and has to be part of the first group. Once you're out, there is no way of getting back. The boring landscape and the wind will suck all motivation out of you. Leaving a race was never this tempting.
Are you part of the first group? Good! Let your teammates do most of the job, and when you reach the bumpy part of the route you can give it a try. The final part of the route the tarmac is way too comfortable, so you will take those who are left with you to the line. Just keep enough fuel in the tank for the final sprint and the victory is yours!
