King's stage starts over Lake Kawaguchi, the old and traditional road to Tokyo, but after 2 Km the riders will turn left in the last crossroad; to start the punishing climb to the sacred mountain.
The first 6 km are 'soft' to pedal so at this point riders with not very good climbing skills can keep the effort against time trialist climbers; after this soft pace starts the hard part of the stage. With a ramp over 17% from km 7 to km 15 the riders with climbing abilities will punish the pure time trialist. Low temperature and volcanic ashes is the other handicap in finding the final winner of the stage and posible new leader of the race as the riders need fresh air to keep a high tempo on the bike.
The last 2 km to reach the famous 5th Station, highest point for road cycling, is a complete odyssey. Mood, ashes and low temperatures welcome the snow and a steepest road over 21% of gradient; the tourist and the local people cheer the brave riders that are in their limit. The rider that conquers the sacred mountain will probably wear the blue jersey awaiting the final party at Tokyo.
