From there, riders will ride the rolling hills and winding roads of the Colombian countryside, taking in sights like San Juan de Girón, Yarumal and La Paila as they make their way to Salento.
The terrain along this route is varied and challenging. As riders make their way towards Salento, they’ll pass through lush valleys and rocky outcrops before taking on the iconic climb up to Salento – a climb steep enough to test even the most experienced cyclists!
Salento itself is a picturesque colonial town located within Colombia’s coffee region. It has a long history that dates back to pre-Colombian times – this region was once home to some of Colombia’s indigenous peoples before being taken over by Spanish conquistadors in 1537. This rich cultural heritage can still be seen today in buildings such as La Casa del Corregidor, which was built during colonial times and still stands today!
La Calle Real de Salento is a race that demands a combination of strength and endurance. The route has plenty of rolling hills, steep climbs and stretches of flat roads, so the ideal rider type for this race is one who can manage both the power and stamina needed to stay ahead. Riders with good skills in climbing will be the favorites to win this race. However, there will also be opportunities for breakaways and surprise moves that could lead to an unexpected result – making this race even more exciting!
