After a long enough break, our transfer section returns once again in the beginning of S71. The 8th magazine is out now and we’ll take a short moment to appreciate the great effort done by the last two retirees of the squad.
Drake Speer
Zack Fayard
Arriving in the start of S62 in his prime, Fayard (28 years old, Birthday, Day 59), joined as the new hill sprint captain to support israeli Bitao score and help the team with some extra cash and points. The main handicap for the French cyclist, he never scored a result before joining our team. With great effort and hard work, he managed to become a regular small scorer and right now he is the third rider with most wins at AM (4), 222 races for the team, 9 races for France NT and a total of 9 results.
Jesper Evjen: Following the team policy, we searched a promising talent to hire and train in our HQs after the successful training of our young riders. Signing the usual 5 seasons deal for trainees, Jesper has a potential to become someone very important in whatever discipline he decides to aim but cobblestones. #FlandersSpirit
Josué Pinhal: With the retirement of Normann much closer, it was clear that if our squad wanted to steal a few points in the FR races, we would need another flat power house to do the drill.
The negotiations with his former team Hog Bay CT were quick and simple as a team sale and Josué has become a new Amstel Flanders rider for the next three seasons.
“I really appreciate the efforts done to count with me, and I look forward to race and bring happy moments to the team. #FlandersSpirit.”
Rom Golan: When Pinhal's auction was over, it was clear to Rom that he would be the one leaving the team in a transfer.
We tried to fulfill his personal request of finding a team of his country to return home but the negotiations didn’t progress, the interest was real but the offer made by Manager Williamson was never replied. So Golan went to public auction and he went to a neighbor team in the Flanders region, Flanders Fields.
“Thanks for the confidence and the support back in the Academy days, at least we will be very close,” Golan said minutes before a taxi picked him up and drove him to his new team HQs a few miles away.
Rodas Lima: One of the vintage lead outs of the squad, he signed an extension of his contract two seasons ago. The Spanish rider has always made clear his intention to retire in the team and surely the staff will call his manager as the season develops to see if he feels strong enough for another season or in the end Rodas will hang the bike.
Sylvain Nkurunziza: Like Lima, Sylvain will turn 35 this season. After the impasse of some seasons ago, the Rwandan cyclist has focused on Cycling, leading the so called “Unit B” of the team as the most experienced team mate.
Definitely the classic known names by our fans are just riding their last kilometers. His calendar will be linked to De Fauw’s.
Artyom Karantirov: With only 28 years old and vast experience, Manager Williamson considers a must his renewal. Both cyclist and team are happy with each other and likely Karantirov will sign a new contract for more seasons. Probably four seasons.
Raphael Carrara: The former Italian superb talent is rushing the last strong legs in his long journey. In less than two weeks he’ll celebrate his 36th birthday and very possibly will be mentally set to retire.
However, doubts clouded our CEO's judgment, of weakening the small strength of the team in the flat roads. Raphael still got contract until end of S72, though money compensation for an earlier termination of his deal won’t mean a lot of cash for our pockets, a budget we’ll need.
Inácio Fagundes: Young and almost balanced age/xp, Fagundes will be offered an extension of 5 seasons, his fresh legs will be much appreciated. With so many Portuguese riders around, it won’t take much to convince him and be part of the team’s future lead-out train.
Hermann Normann: The Greenlandic goat will end his contract this season, when he turns 38. Some flocks of gray hair might change his mind and choose retirement.
We’re very pleased with his performance, crucial as a top team mate or sprinter. Prove of it, a declined offer for his transfer a little above his Release Value, something Manager Williamson obviously didn’t accept.
“I feel good right now, a bit tired I guess after the immense effort of the season ending. If you ask me now, I’d tell you I want to keep racing, but my energies could be different when the season ends. My focus now is helping as much as I can and then we can sit and discuss it,” Normann commented in a press conference at the Greenland National High Performance Center, where he met the new National coach, Phil.
Wilhelm Lindberg: He will have his own separate PR, to do a deeper analysis.
