Difficult season 70

Written by De Bitterballetjes at 10:04 9/10-2024

The management of De Bitterballetjes is ready with their analysis of this rather complicated season. We succesfully founded a nice cobblestone squad, with top rider Adrian Wynn as absolute captain. But we saw no improvement in the sprinting department and in the HL-compartment we still need 35-year old Eric Roockeloes to stand our ground.

Adrian Wynn turned out to be one of the better cobblers in this game. But he now has a full squad in his support, which can be seen in his results. Marwan Shushan and Jordan Nenite were trained and they have become great assistants. Khammouaoue Bounphana turned out poorly, maxing 71 on his primary skill. We will release him next season.

Eric Roockeloes got himself another victory and grabbed three 4th spots along the way. That's more then we estimated. We expect more from Jeremy De Fauw next season, as he will receive more chances in the role of captain. But we are realistic: he will never be as good as Roockeloes. Lieutenant Chris Testaferrata Viani will get some opportunities too. Unfortunately we failed to train new strong hillers: Ann Fanqin maxed overall on 37, just after training the HL-skill. Gerasim Korotayev also maxed too low, finishing 74 on the HL-skill. But, he can, just like De Fauw, be an asset in AV-races.

We are thinking about getting us a CL and a DH-rider to be more competitive in those AV-races, because our younger hillers are not top notch in their specific discipline, but they can get results in AV-races. Taras Kurayev is a new talent who will hopefully be another supporting rider for Roockeloes, De Fauw or Viani.

We did not invest in our sprinting squad and it showed. Our best sprinter, on paper, Norberto Rebimbas didn't realise even one single result. Albert Brunton did his thing with one victory and two small results. Geoffrey Jack got himsolf only one top-9 result. Lead-out Guillaume Deferme got fourth once. He will be replaced by a new and younger LO1.

We scouted a lot of riders to have only few succesfull projects. Our bank account is not that great anymore. Some riders will leave the team in season 71 to create the funds for the training of Kurayev (HL), the SP-talent that recently was purchased, one trained CL-rider and one DH-cyclist. We will drop down to Division 6 maybe, but we need a small reboot.

Wynn definitely is a rider you‘ll have fun with in the next 12 seasons or so :-)

And I agree with Frank, focusing on another particular type of race beside CB might be worth a thought.

Holwerda Cycling at 14:06 9/10-2024
Wynn is a great rider! You will have much fun with him I reckon.

Just a thought here: aren't trying to be competitive in too many types of races? If you would focus on two teams only, you will have better funds
