The struggling CSB Racing have broken their drought after a series of impressive results. Cuello capped off an excellent two week campaign for CBS racing netting a win at Novara-Baveno today. This brings the total results to 4 wins and 8 results for Season 55 and a prize pit of $70,000. Which is made all the more impressive by the fact it’s all been bagged in the last 14 days.
Cuello’s wins puts him alongside Fran Gasch and Zak Mundine who netted wins at Marum-Drachten, NLD and Nowra, AUS respectively. Although impressive the fact these wins have all come from different riders reinforces the criticism of CSB that they lack an undisputed team leader.
But the team may have a couple of homegrown talents waiting in the wings after a surprise victory in Puerto Rico for the Columbian youngest Lazaro Santos. The hill sprinting talent took victory in the all round Arecibo - Mayaguez (U23) race, which may indicate that Santos could be the out and out captain Canard have hoped for.
However, his Venezuelan counterpart Ramone Vaquero could also turn heads later this season after showing fantastic potential in training and his recent warm up races. The climbing and downhill specialist is set to reach beyond Santos peak and will be targeting different races which could make for a deadly duo next season.
“The focus of the team is shifting.” Juan Yetaes said in an recent interview. “We want options but we also don’t want to cut the team in two - with one half focusing on climbing and the other on sprints. That’s why we are forming a team that can target both the climbing races but also the hillier, more technical sprints. That way we have a squad and riders who can support both pursuits.”
And with Vaquero and Santos showing great promise; whatever happens the future looks bright for Canard Solutions Bogata.
